We believe that every child is created for a purpose

 

We offer a Grade R program that caters to the unique needs of children from 5 years old to 6 years old.  During this phase children are enjoying the development of physical, social, and mental skills which develop quickly at this time.  By this time, children can dress themselves, catch a ball easily using only their hands, and tie their shoes. Having independence from family becomes more important now.  Friendships become more and more important.

We encourage children at this phase to assist around the classroom with their friends, working together as a group.  We give them all the attention and assistance they need to gain the knowledge to be happy and achieve excellent results throughout their school careers.  Our classes are small so their teacher knows them well and knows how each child learns effectively.  They each have their own Grade R CAPS curriculum workbook and the teacher will work through the termly teacher books to build on their life, language and mathematics skills.

We continue to build their mathematics understanding and encourage them to perfect their ability to successfully manipulate materials.  They will work on all the mathematic concepts both in concrete and abstract form.  They will learn all the grade R concepts and some extra grade 1 concepts that will be presented to them, such as doing sums, through the many fun interactive games we do.

 

We continue to build on their already solid language skills by teaching them to read using

their phonetic knowledge, we teach them high frequency words, we teach them correct letter

formation and how to write their names.  We encourage them to tell us stories about their days

and to read the books in our library.
